It’s My Career background
Here’s a brief insight into my career background. I started working for a grassroots organisation called Action and Rights of Disabled People in London Borough of Newham as a Disability Rights Advocate. I progressed onto developing and coordinating local independent living services. While working for this organisation, I learned about the disabled people’s movement as well as the political aspects. This experience provided me with the springboard to further my career. I was offered positions with some of the most prominent organisations within the disability movement which allowed me to be part of influencing policy at a national level.  

Board work
In 2006, I took up the opportunity to work on government and national boards. I sat on the Equality 2025 – the United Kingdom Advisory Network on Disability Equality and Office for Disability Issues: Independent Living Scrutiny Group. I currently sit on National Co-Production Advisory Group as an advisory member and Independent Living Alternative as a Trustee.

Academics
There is a geeky side to me. In 2009 I graduated from University of East London with MSc NGO and Development Management. I wrote my dissertation on Independent Living. Dissertation titled Voices of Disabled People: A comparative study to explore the North and South experiences of Independent Living.

• 2017 Presented at Images of Tomorrow Conference on Disability as Anti-Systemic Superpowers which will consider different ways that a future without the oppression and disavowed of non-able-bodied people could be radically empowering

• 2015 Presented at Conference on Self-Directed Support and BME. ‘Let’s Get Personal’ Communities in Edinburgh Conference. Speech title: Lived experience as a BME disabled person
   
• 2015 Presented at Women of the World. Speech title: Mainstream feminism ignores the voices of disabled women
   
• 2013 Presented at Personalisation Expert Panel Conference in Hampshire. Speech title: Breathing New Life Into Personalisation. Inclusion in Education
   
• 2011 Present at the UK Disability History Month. Speech title: Black Disabled People’s experience in the UK
   
• 2010 Presented at the UNISON 17th National Disabled Members’ Conference in Telford International Centre. Speech title: How to ensure disabled people's inclusion and participation are preserved in the mainstream of society
   
• 2010 Presented at Trades Union Congress. Speech title: on Experience of disabled people in the real world during the recession
   
• 2010 Presented at Million Women Rise. Speech title:  Breaking the silence of Disabled Women add video and following this event led to the creation of Sisters of Frida in 2014 it became a CIC. I am one of the co-founders
   
• 2007 Presented at the Disability Capital: Greater London Authority for Bicentenary event to mark the passing of the abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in Britain. Research title:  Ignored No More? – The role disabled people played in the road to the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade
   
• 2005 – 2006 Project managed with Saadia Neilson the Inclusive Education for Disabled Primary School Children in the Palestine Refugee Camps in Lebanon 8: 10 – 11
